Counties

Distribution by Counties

The table below displays data for Alabama's 67 counties, treated as service areas. The field Communities refers to the number of communities in the county with PCPs. A Core-Based Statistical Area (CBSA) is a US geographic area defined by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) consisting of one or more contiguous counties. Specifically, a CBSA consists of counties anchored by an urban center of at least 10,000 people plus adjacent counties that are socioeconomically tied to the urban center by commuting. So the counties are classified in the table as belonging to a CBSA or rural otherwise. CBSAs are further classified according to the US Census Bureau definitions of urban cluster and urbanized area. Micropolitan statistical areas are based on urban clusters of at least 10,000 and fewer than 50,000 people. Metropolitan statistical areas are based on urbanized areas of at least 50,000 people. The FTE Need and Difference columns are computed by the supply and demand models, based on Visits Per Year, as decribed in the methods section.

Five counties have about 52% of Alabama's PCPs: Jefferson, Madison, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa. The table below gives a summary by status (a surplus or deficiency of FTEs PCPs) using the Visits Per Year model.

Distribution by CBSA

The interactive table below displays data on Alabama's Core-Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs), together with the combined rural counties, treated as service areas. As before, the FTE Need column is computed by the supply and demand model, based on visits per year, as decribed in the methods section

Five CBSAs have 61% of all PCPs: Birmingham-Hoover, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuecaloosa.

Distribution by County Type

The interactive table below displays data based on county type treated as service areas: metropolitan CBSA, micropolitan CBSA, or rural. Once again, the FTE Need column is computed by the supply and demand model, based on visits per year, as decribed in the methods section
